Livestock: Protein with Purpose and Pace
Protein production is the cornerstone of a truly self-sufficient lifestyle. As we homestead in our later years, raising our own meat and eggs is key, but our approach is driven by intentionality and space management.
We have focused primarily on smaller animals—quail, chickens, and rabbits—because they allow us to raise wonderful, healthy protein for our family while demanding minimal infrastructure and less overall daily maintenance.
While pigs are included in our mix, we chose them last and manage them using specialized methods that keep their space requirements low.
We have broken this section down to provide detailed, intentional information on what we have learned. This guidance is designed to help you make educated decisions on which livestock will fit your energy level and space constraints as you strive for a self-sufficient life.
